SusieCakes

Red Velvet cake from Susie CakesWell, it’s been over a month since my birthday, so I figure it’s about time that I post about my fabulous birthday cake that my husband got me from SusieCakes. SusieCakes is a small bakery in Brentwood that just celebrated it’s one year anniversary this July. While they do sell an assortment of wonderful, frosting-filled cupcakes, that is not their main focus. The layer cakes are front and center in their display case. The cupcakes come second. They also offer mini-cupcakes, puddings, icebox cakes/cheesecakes, pies, cookies & bars. One item that I am still pining for: their whoppie pie - two soft chocolate cookies filled with homemade cream. YUM!

This year, my husband made all of my birthday dreams come true by surprising me with this eight-inch red velvet cake covered in cream cheese frosting. The four layers of cake were so moist, yet not too sweet. The frosting was very creamy and very sweet - a perfect match for the cake. Each slice is so rich with creaminess and flavor, that this little cake could easily serve up to eight people.

I highly suggest SusieCakes. If you find yourself in Brentwood with a raging sweet tooth, there is no better place to satisfy it. The decor is very cute: light blue and brown (clearly one of my favorite color combos!) with metal tables and chairs.Sliced Red Velvet Cake Being in there reminds me of a simpler time, when eating a slice of cake with friends and family would be all that you need. It exudes a sense of nostalgia that I think we all crave from time to time, almost as much as we crave a cupcake!

I love Susie Cakes! But unfortunately have never tried any of their layer cakes for fear of it disappearing by my own accord in a few days. Never had a Whoopie Pie either! That cake looks delicious.

Darlene - the cake was fantastic, but I definitely recommend getting one when you can share it. It’s not easy to keep yourself from going back for a third or fourth slice!!!

Sonadora - Thank you!!! Happy BDay to you, too :)
