BluWater Bistro

My first dining experience in Seattle was at the BluWater Bistro, a wonderful spot for fish, seafood, and anything fresh right along Lake Union. My husband and I were brought there by our friend, L, who we were visiting.
To me, BluWater serves up the type of food you expect from Seattle. Specializing in items from the sea, everything tastes very light. The focus is on the food itself, no bells or whistles. It’s all about quality ingredients. I picture the chefs shopping at Pike Street Market every morning, making sure they always have the freshest ingredients on hand.
The view itself is worth going for. If weather permits, definitely sit on their packed patio. The backdrop of crystal clear waters, million dollar yachts, and beautiful houses across the lake entice you to take your meal slowly, savoring your food and enjoying your company. The waitstaff is very friendly, despite how busy the place can be. And the food was excellent at very reasonable prices.
I knew I was on the right track by ordering the mahi mahi fish tacos, because L, a frequent visitor of BluWater, was doing the same. (Although, I must admit, I was swayed to go with the Dungeness crab mac and cheese made with Gruyere instead!) The tacos were simple - grilled, marinated mahi mahi, cooked perfectly, served along-side guac, sour cream, pineapple salsa, and a cripsy, creamy slaw salad. They were DIY, so the tortillas came on the side. Everything was delicious, but my only complaint was that they serve flour tortillas. With fish, I prefer the more authentic corn tortilla. But, the rest of the dish more than made up for it.

The husband went with the chicken breast sandwich, which was actually much more interesting than it sounds. It was brought to new levels by the melted provolone, grilled pineapple, and sweet teriyaki glaze. The chicken was cooked to perfect juicy done-ness, and was served on a kaiser roll. Served up with waffle fries, this was the perfect lunch for him.

All in all, this was a great place to soak up the rare Seattle sunshine, enjoy some natural beauty, catch up with a great friend, and of course, eat some good food. The menu has a wide range of things to choose from, so this is a great, laid back place to bring a big crowd or a family. There really is something for everyone. If you are in the Lake Union area, I would definitely suggest BluWater Bistro.
